Event Overview
The Desert Solstice Track Invitational is an elite ultrarunning track meet focused on record setting and qualifying for the national 24-hour team. Participation is by invitation or qualification only. The event is limited to a total of 25 runners for the combined 24 Hour and 100 Mile distances.
Course and Venue
The race takes place on a 400-meter all-weather track at Camelback High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Runners change direction every four hours, starting counter-clockwise. There is no elevation gain per loop.
Logistics and Rules
A fully stocked aid station with water, electrolyte drinks, and food is provided. Runners are assigned a shared 10x10 canopy space. The event uses electronic chip timing at two points per lap.
Specific rules apply. Headphones are allowed only for music via an MP3 player when attempting a record, not for phone communication. Pacing is allowed. Shoes must comply with World Athletics regulations for road events. Detailed track etiquette is enforced to manage different paces on the track.
Awards and Records
Prize money is awarded for achieving specific performance standards in the 100-mile and 24-hour events, with separate awards for winners and non-winners. The event has a history of record setting, with 15 world records and 101 national records set there.
