Applecross Duathlon : Scottish Highlands
The Applecross Duathlon is a community duathlon based at Hartfield House in Wester Ross, Scottish Highlands, scheduled for 19 September 2026. Entries open Saturday 6 June via SiEntries. Hartfield House serves as start, finish, registration and a competitor-only hostel with a range of accommodation options.
The event combines running and cycling over a peninsula course with significant climbing and coastal sections. Key course facts:
- Run: 14.3 km with about 471 m ascent
- Cycle: 24.1 km with about 538 m ascent
Overall the event covers roughly 9 miles on foot and 15 miles by bike, with around 3,300 feet of total ascent and descent. The route begins near Hartfield House, follows an ancient right of way across the peninsula to the north coast, climbs to about 260 m before reaching transition at Arrina, then returns along a coastal road with views over Loch Torridon and toward the Skye Cuillin.
There are two entry options, Race and Challenge. The Challenge option is recommended for participants who expect to take longer on the course or who plan to walk some sections; both options are timed and the organisers allow on-the-day option changes at Registration. Entry fees are noted for adults and under 16s and all profit supports the local sports and wellbeing association.
A commemorative trophy is awarded in memory of a local contributor. An evening ceilidh is held in the village hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
