Trotternish Ridge Race
The Trotternish Ridge Race is a long-distance mountain event organized by the Skye and Lochalsh Running Club. The race follows its original point-to-point route from Flodigary to Storr Lochs, traversing the Trotternish Ridge via Meal na Suiramach, Ben Edra, and the Storr. Due to Nature Scot restrictions, participation is limited to a maximum of 75 participants.
The event consists of a single distance:
- 27 km with approximately 2000 m of ascent and descent.
As a Category A long race, participants must have completed similar events or possess relevant experience within the last three years. The course is entirely unmarked, and runners must navigate between unmanned checkpoints using a map and compass. Specific grid references are provided to competitors closer to the event date. Marshals and water stations are located at two points along the route.
Registration takes place at Portree High School. The entry fee includes bus transportation from Portree to the start line at Flodigary, and from the finish at Storr Lochs back to Portree. Following the race, a prize giving ceremony and light refreshments are held at the finish area.
All participants must be at least 18 years old. All runners are subject to a kit check prior to starting to ensure they meet Scottish Hill Runners requirements, which include carrying specific safety gear and potentially a survival bag depending on the weather.
