The event raises funds for the main charity 4ED, which supports efforts to combat motor neurone disease, and also provides financial support to three local village community organisations: the host cricket club, Deerhurst Playing Fields and the local primary school. The primary school’s pupils create directional signs for the course.
The AQM has run since 1983 and includes community-focused features that return each year, such as cakes, craft medals, golden tickets, a countryside counter, historic churchyards, a bar and a BBQ. Fancy dress and children dressed as TV characters are regularly encouraged. The event works with local sponsors and volunteers; contributions such as empty jars for jams and pickles are welcome.
