Aorangi Undulator : Fixture Card
The Aorangi Undulator is a backcountry point-to-point course on 31 October 2026 from Mangatoetoe to Putangirua Pinnacles, roughly 27 km with about 2,000 m of ascent. The route is a route rather than a marked track, with limited course marking and marshals only at key huts and turnoffs.
Terrain includes wet, slippery, technical river travel, mud, scree and steep, precipitous descents. Key marshalled check points are Kawakawa Hut, Pararaki Hut and Washpool Hut; Kawakawa Hut has a 3-hour cut-off from the start. Safe emergency exits are via Kawakawa Station and Washpool Stream, and evacuation must be coordinated with a marshal.
Logistics note a 21 km drive between finish and start; parking is ample at the finish but limited at the start. Warm clothing and other belongings can be left with volunteers at the start for transport to the finish. Accommodation options listed for the area include Te Kopi Homestead, Waimeha Camping Village, the DOC camp at the Pinnacles, Washpool Retreat and Lake Ferry.
Mandatory gear requirements apply and all entrants must carry or have access to a PLB or satellite tracking device on course.
