Big Bang Adventure Race : event overview
The Big Bang Adventure Race is a team multisport event held in the South Wairarapa region. Teams of two or four, mixed or single gender, travel together across varied rural terrain covering around 30 to 50 km and taking roughly five to eight hours to complete. The course includes mountain biking, hiking, a water activity, navigation and team building elements, plus some additional surprise activities.
Navigation is by map and compass. One map per team is provided at the start and course notes are issued to team captains. Teams pass through checkpoints and transition areas to change disciplines and refuel between stages.
Participants must carry compulsory kit and sufficient food and water at all times; gear is checked at registration and may be checked during the race. Support crews are required for entries and can attend transition and catering points. The event takes place largely on private farm land where dogs are not permitted.
Entry provisions include a Big Bang 2026 event t-shirt and a meal ticket for the finish line barbecue for most entries, while merchandise ordering and college team arrangements follow separate conditions. Registration is completed at one of two regional locations prior to race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
