Big Bang Adventure Race - South Wairarapa
The Big Bang Adventure Race is a team multisport event held in the South Wairarapa and Greater Wellington region. Teams of two or four, mixed or single gender, complete a course that combines mountain biking, hiking, map-and-compass navigation and a mystery water activity. The planned course distance is around 30–50 km, with expected overall durations of approximately 5 to 8 hours.
Navigation is by map and compass; one map per team is issued shortly before the race start and team captains receive maps and course notes only. Teams pass through checkpoints and transition areas to change disciplines and refuel. Organisers advise that participants should be prepared to get muddy, possibly wet, and tired.
Carrying compulsory kit is required at all times during the race. Food, water and other mandatory gear must be brought to registration for checking; teams do not need to bring their bikes to registration. Gear may also be checked during the event. A support crew is required for each team; extra meal tickets for support crew, friends and family are available in advance for a fee and are not sold on race day.
The event includes an on-site finish-line BBQ with a meal ticket included for entrants. College teams have a separate entry arrangement and limited team places. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
