Big Bang Adventure Race
The Big Bang Adventure Race is a team multisport event in the South Wairarapa region. Teams of two or four, mixed or single gender, cover roughly 30–50 km within a six hour time limit. The course combines mountain biking, hiking, navigation with map and compass, and a water activity, plus several surprise activities that may be muddy or wet.
The race introduces Rogaine stages so teams can choose how many optional checkpoints to collect inside the time limit. One map per team is provided shortly before the race. Teams pass through transition areas to change disciplines and refuel during the course. Checkpoints and transition areas structure progress toward the finish.
Entrants receive a Big Bang 2026 t-shirt and a meal ticket for the finish-line barbecue; merchandise orders close before the event and later entries may not include a shirt. Meal tickets for extra friends and family are available before race day. College teams have a flat-rate entry fee while limited places last, after which a higher rate applies; college teams must meet eligibility requirements.
All compulsory kit listed by the organisers must be carried during the race and will be checked at registration and possibly during the event. The 2026 race does not require a support crew. Much of the course uses private farmland and dogs are not permitted on the event area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
