About the race
Initial Mile presents the second annual Anime Fan and Fitness Festival in Gilroy, California on September 19, 2026, at 7049 Miller Ave. The event combines running and anime-themed festival activities and includes multiple footrace distances and a children’s dash.
Course and race format:
- 10K run - out-and-back loop on a paved trail.
- 5K run and walk - out-and-back loop on a paved trail.
- 400 m Little Ninja Dash - short dash with minimal obstacles on festival grounds.
The 5K and 10K participants start together in the same corral and then follow their respective course. The Little Ninja Dash releases children in small waves of three to five to reduce crowding on obstacles. Obstacles listed for the Little Ninja Dash include a balance beam walk, plyobox climb or walk-over, hurdle hops, and an army crawl.
Registration details include fees of $55.00 for the 10K, $45.00 for the 5K, and free registration for the Little Ninja Dash. Little Ninja participants must register by August 30 to receive a finisher award. Registrations include official race timing results from SVE Timing, an official race bib, and a finisher wooden medal; a finisher t-shirt is available for purchase.
The festival area also features a victory village with local vendors, performers, and a Fandom Anime Quest that offers participants a series of challenges and an Initial Mile Warrior Badge. Cosplay is encouraged. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
