Event overview
Andy's Backyard Ultra takes place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Teventrails in Earlysville, Virginia (5422 Markwood Road). The event uses a backyard ultra format. Entry fee is $100. Registration opens December 13, 2025. The race limits the field (90 spots were listed at the time of the source information). Proceeds from the event are designated for the Earlysville Volunteer Fire Company.
Course and format
The event is a "last person standing" backyard ultra. Competitors must complete repeating laps of about 4.17 miles each, with roughly 358 feet of elevation gain and loss per lap. Laps follow a mixture of wooded single track, grassy fields, and farm roads. Runners must complete each lap within the hour assigned to that lap and may not start the next lap before the hour begins. The sole winner is the runner who completes one more lap than all other entrants; if no runner achieves that, there is no winner and all are recorded as DNF. Artificial aids such as trekking poles are not allowed.
Logistics, support and awards
One aid station area is provided for runners between laps; water will be available but no aid stations are allowed on course. Runners must supply their own food, clothing, headlamps, and other gear. Porta-potties are provided past the start line. Camping and tent sites are available on race property. Team scoring is by sum of laps for teams of 2 to 4 (not a relay). Milestone awards include a 50-mile buff at 12 laps, a 100-mile buckle at 24 laps, a 150-mile buff at 36 laps, and a 200-mile buckle at 48 laps. Each entrant receives a race T-shirt; the overall winner receives a Sole Survivor shirt and trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
