Liberation and Freedom Days Reparations Run/Walk
The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center and Prolyfyck Run Crew present an annual Liberation and Freedom Day Run/Walk held in Charlottesville, Virginia on February 27, 2027. The event raises funds to support organizations with Black leadership that serve the African American community directly.
The route passes several sites of African American history in the city and goes by African American businesses. Two event options are offered:
- 8.11 miles run
- 3.78 miles walk
Registration opens November 29, 2026 and closes February 27, 2027. Registration fees are listed as $50.00 for the near 8 mile run and $35.00 for the 4 mile walk. The walk follows a roughly 4 mile loop and begins after the runners.
The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center houses a permanent historical exhibit and a rotating contemporary art gallery and works to preserve and promote the heritage and legacy of Charlottesville-Albemarle’s African American community. The run/walk is organized in partnership with Prolyfyck Run Crew, a running community focused on empowerment and support for historically marginalized Black and Brown communities.
