Liberation and Freedom Days Reparations Run/Walk

The Liberation and Freedom Days Reparations Run/Walk takes place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The event is presented by Prolyfyck Run Crew in partnership with the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center and starts and finishes at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, 233 4th St NW, Charlottesville, VA 22903. The event offers these distances:

  • 8 mile run : $40
  • 4 mile walk : $25

Event purpose, route and logistics

The event raises funds to support organizations with Black leadership and to support the local community directly. The near 8 mile run and the 4 mile walk pass several sites related to Charlottesville’s African American history and travel by some local African American businesses. Named locations along the routes include the African American Burial Ground, Memorial to Enslaved Laborers, Kitty Foster Monument, Tonsler Park, the Court Square Slave Auction Block, and the Downtown Mall. Detailed turn-by-turn directions and route maps are provided for both distances. Packet pickup for bibs and swag bags is scheduled at the Jefferson School Heritage Center on Friday, February 27, and bibs will also be available on the event day at the museum shop and cafe entrance.
