Event overview

The Liberation and Freedom Days Reparations Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026 in Charlottesville, Virginia. The event is organized by the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center in partnership with Prolyfyck Run Crew. It includes two distances:

  • 8 mile run : entry fee $40
  • 4 mile walk : entry fee $25

The event raises funds to support community organizations led by Black leadership. Registration closes on February 28, 2026.

Course and logistics

Both routes start and end at the Jefferson School City Center. The near 8 mile run and 4 mile walk pass several sites of African American history in the city and pass local African American businesses. Noted landmarks on the course include Kitty Foster Memorial Park, an African American burial ground, the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers, Mount Zion, Daughters of Zion Cemetery, Court Square, Jackson P. Burley Middle School, and Washington Park.

Race packets can be picked up in the hallway outside the JSAAHC museum shop and cafe. Bibs and swag bags are available for pickup on Friday, February 27 at the Jefferson School Heritage Center from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, and bibs will also be available on the day of the event outside the museum shop and cafe.
