Windgather Fell Race
Windgather Fell Race takes place on Sunday 11 October 2026 and follows a largely off-road route around the Goyt Valley, rising to Shining Tor. The course is approximately a half marathon at 21.5 km / 13.5 miles, with about 760 m of ascent and the same descent. The route is marked at junctions, but navigation is the responsibility of the runner; free maps are available online or at race headquarters.
The event follows Fell Runners Association kit requirements. Mandatory items include a waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and an attached hood, hat and gloves, a map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. A water bottle and some basic first aid kit are strongly recommended. Water is provided at two points on the route, and hot food and drinks are available at the finish.
The course may be muddy in parts, so footwear with good grip is required. Entrants must be 18 or older. Entry fee is listed as £14, with on-day entry at £16 if places remain. Pre-entry is requested and there is no guaranteed entry on the day. Proceeds from the race go to Buxton Rotary. The race is marked as the 20th anniversary event and pre-entries receive a memento.
