About the race
The American Legions/Veterans of Foreign Wars Run for Heroes is a community 5K run and walk held on October 17, 2026 at Baldwin Harbor Park in Baldwin, NY. The event offers in-person participation and several registration categories including college student, veteran, first responder, and youth (17 and under). Registration includes options for standard entries, sponsorship only, and donation only; donations can be made in honor of a team or an individual. Pre-registered in-person participants receive a commemorative t-shirt.
Onsite amenities include refreshments, water, restrooms, live timing and same-day photos, and an awards ceremony immediately following the race. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers and top finishers in age groups including 16 and under, 17-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 plus. Bib pickup is handled by event staff beginning one hour before the event; registering three weeks in advance allows a personalized bib. The race page notes that registration fees are non-refundable and that participants agree to standard liability waivers and event terms.
