Event Overview
The American Hero event takes place at Comanche Park and the Salado Creek Greenway in San Antonio, Texas. This multi-distance sports gathering focuses on honoring heroes such as military personnel, first responders, and essential workers. The course primarily utilizes the scenic trails of the Salado Creek Greenway.
Available Distances
- American Hero 13.1 (Half Marathon): An inaugural out-and-back course of 13.1 miles.
- 25K Relay Team: A team event for 5 runners where each participant completes a 5k loop.
- 10K Hero Ruck: A 6.2-mile non-timed event for participants aged 18 and over, requiring a weight of up to 50 pounds to be carried.
- 5K Hero Race: A single loop course of 3.1 miles.
- Wheelchair 5K: A 3.1-mile category with a potentially separate route for safety.
- Kids Fun Run: A 400m race dedicated to children aged 12 and under.
- Virtual Races: Remote options are available for both the Half Marathon and 5K distances.
Participation Details
The 10K Hero Ruck has a four-hour time limit and includes a medic station near the finish line to check health between loops. Participants in the half marathon and ruck categories may choose to run for a specific hero, with names included on race bibs. Prize money is available for winning relay teams and may be offered for masters athletes in the half marathon depending on registration volume.
