Alpha Phi Thankful 5K Race
The Alpha Phi Thankful 5K Race is scheduled for 11/08/2026 in Charlottesville, Virginia at Madbowl on the UVA grounds. The event includes an in-person 5K on grounds and a weekend-long virtual 5K component that allows participants to join from elsewhere.
Proceeds from the event are donated to foundations and scholarships established in memory of chapter members, with the stated aim of supporting students seeking or enrolled in higher education. One scholarship is awarded through the Jefferson Scholars Foundation to a candidate from Southwest Virginia who reached the final selection round. A separate foundation supports college scholarships for students from Justice High School.
Registration for the race carries a fee of $22.00. The event is organized by the Zeta Iota chapter of Alpha Phi and is presented as a philanthropic and community-oriented activity that connects chapter members, family, and the wider UVA and Charlottesville community.
The event name comes from a hand-painted "thankful" sign kept above a member's bed; thankful is described as the way she lived her life. The race was created after that member passed away in 2012 and has continued annually to maintain the original focus on gratitude and community support.
