Alma Highland Festival Road Race
The Alma Highland Festival Road Race takes place in Alma, Michigan, as part of a long-standing Scottish heritage celebration. This event is held on the grounds of Alma College and offers multiple participation options for runners and walkers of various ages. The festival itself is a two-day occurrence that features traditional activities such as Highland Dance competitions, bagpipe and drumming performances, and Scottish athletic events.
The race series focuses on shorter distances and community participation. The available events include:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk
- Kids Fun Run (specifically for children aged 10 and under)
The Kids Fun Run is organized by age groups with specific distances for younger participants. Children aged 0-2 years run approximately 25 meters, those aged 3-5 years run approximately 50 meters, and participants aged 6-10 years complete a 100-meter course.
Participants aged 11 and older who register for the 5K events receive a race t-shirt and a wristband that grants entry to the festival grounds. These grounds host various attractions, including reenactment events, craft shows, children’s games, and multiple music venues. Children aged 10 and under do not require a wristband for festival entry. The event highlights the local Scottish heritage of the area, often referred to as Scotland USA.
