Conquer Multiple Sclerosis
Conquer Multiple Sclerosis is a 5K run or walk held on July 18, 2026, on Central Michigan University’s campus in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The course loops around the campus near 349 E Preston St. The event is sponsored by the Physical Therapy Student Organization and proceeds will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Registration opens on May 1, 2026 and closes on July 18, 2026. The registration fee is $25.
The event description includes basic information about multiple sclerosis. There are three main types: relapsing-remitting MS involves symptom flare ups that later recede; secondary-progressive MS involves a gradual increase of symptoms that may or may not remit; and primary-progressive MS involves a gradual onset of symptoms without remission. Symptoms that may occur include fatigue, numbness, trouble walking, vision problems, and shock like pain with neck movements. A diagnosis can take time, with the average taking up to two years.
Physical therapy is noted as one health service a person with MS might receive. Physical therapy cannot cure MS, but it can help strengthen muscles, improve walking ability, support balance and coordination, and improve overall mobility and independence.
