Event Overview

The Allerton Races take place within the grounds of Allerton Park in Monticello, Illinois. This annual running event features multiple distances held across a single weekend, utilizing the park's network of hiking and running trails. The event was established following the replacement of the bridge across the Sangamon River, which reconnected the park's trail systems. Participants can choose to run or walk the courses.

The event serves as a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Illinois. The weekend schedule includes an evening race on Saturday and morning races on Sunday. The Saturday evening 5k features lighted statues and audio-visual elements along the course. Participants completing the Sunday races receive finisher medals.

Distance Options

Participants can select from the following race distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 10k
  • Trail-Glo 5k

Participation Formats

In addition to the in-person races at Allerton Park, a virtual option is available for all three distances. Virtual participants can complete their chosen distance on a course of their own choosing and record their time using a GPS device or mobile application. Finisher medals are mailed to those who complete the virtual 10k or Half Marathon.

The event is also a qualifying component of the Monticello Triple Crown. This series consists of three different race events held in Monticello. Individuals who finish one race in each of the three events qualify for a specific series award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
