Allerton Park Trail Run
The Allerton Park Trail Run is a single day event on October 25, 2026, at Robert Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, Illinois. The event includes in-person trail running, a nature walk, and a virtual running option.
- 5.7 Miles trail run on mixed terrain along portions of the Sangamon River.
- 2 Miles nature walk, non competitive.
- VIRTUAL 5.7 Miles option with remote result entry.
The 5.7 mile course follows the river and includes hidden roots, ruts, sharp turns, and other trail obstacles. The race finishes in a meadow where participants can gather. The event encourages costumes because it is close to Halloween. Door prizes and costume contest prizes are part of the day.
Awards for the overall 5.7 mile trail run include top male, top female, top male masters, and top female masters. Age group awards for the 5.7 mile event are given to the top three male and top three female in these brackets: 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. The 2 mile nature walk is explicitly non competitive and receives no awards.
A portion of proceeds supports Allerton Park for trail maintenance and park enhancements, including railing installation, trail erosion control, recycling bins, a bottle filling water fountain, and a new visitor center cafe. Volunteers are needed and may receive guidance or training. For safety, no dogs are allowed on the trail run or the nature walk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
