Alf Shrubb Memorial - 10k & 5k
The Alf Shrubb Memorial Races take place in Slinfold on Sunday 12 September 2027. The event includes trail races for adults and shorter races for children, and it raises funds for local community causes.
Distances
- 10 km two scenic laps finishing at Slinfold Cricket Club
- 5 km one scenic lap finishing at Slinfold Cricket Club
- One-mile children’s race for ages 8–11 with the Inter-Schools Challenge Trophy
- Kids race for ages 5–7 at the cricket club
Both the 10 km and 5 km run over mixed trails through West Sussex countryside using footpaths, bridleways and local tracks. All adult races are chip timed and finish on the cricket pitch. The 10 km follows a two-lap route while the 5 km is a single lap.
Event facilities include race number collection and warm-ups at Slinfold Cricket Club, refreshments and homemade cakes, a fully licensed bar and extra ladies-only toilets. All finishers receive a replica Alf Shrubb medal; prize certificates are presented to category winners including top male and female, age-group winners and top Slinfold residents. A pair of Alf Shrubb’s running shoes, normally held at Horsham Museum, will be on display at the cricket club on race day.
Since its relaunch in 2024 the event has grown: entry numbers doubled in 2025, the 10 km reached capacity and the inaugural 5 km attracted more than 100 runners. Both races are expected to fill quickly in 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
