Alf Shrubb Memorial 10k and 5k
The Alf Shrubb Memorial Races take place in Slinfold on 13 September 2026. The event includes mixed trail races that run through West Sussex countryside, using footpaths, bridleways and local trails, and it finishes on the cricket pitch at Slinfold Cricket Club.
Races offered:
- 10k - two scenic laps finishing at Slinfold Cricket Club
- 5k - one lap on a closely similar scenic route
- Children's races including a one mile race for ages 8 to 11 which features the Inter Schools Challenge Trophy, and a 5 to 7 year old race at the cricket club
All races are chip timed. A professionally led warm up will take place on the cricket field before runners move to the start on Clapgate Lane. One water station is provided at 5k for the 10k route.
The event raises funds for local organisations and community causes. On race day the cricket club serves as event headquarters and offers refreshments such as tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cakes, plus a fully licensed bar and additional facilities including ladies only toilets. All finishers receive a replica Alf Shrubb medal and prize certificates are awarded to top finishers and age group winners.
The race commemorates Alf Shrubb, a distance runner born in Slinfold in 1879; a pair of his running shoes, normally held at Horsham Museum, will be on display at the cricket club on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
