Event overview

Alderman’s Ascent is scheduled for Saturday 25th July 2026. The 2026 edition marks the race's tenth year and will serve as a counter race for the English Fell Running Championship 2026. The organiser has moved the event base from the Rugby Club to the Satellite Centre on Wellington Road, Greenfield, which is immediately opposite the start line.

Course

The course is a fell race of 8.5 km with over 400 m of climbing. The route passes the "Pots and Pans" monument, continues to Shaw Rocks, the highest point, then returns toward Alderman’s Hill. The route includes a long, technical downhill section followed by a prolonged uphill to the shoulder of Alderman’s Hill and then a run back to the finish.

Rules and logistics

The race is classed as an "AS" event under Fell Runners Association rules. Mandatory kit requirements will be decided on the day; entrants are advised to have the full FRA kit ready. A course map for 2025 is available and a slight change is expected for 2026. Volunteer marshals are accepted and are given race credit for future events.
