Alderman's Ascent - Saturday 25 July 2026

Alderman's Ascent is a fell race held in the South/West Pennines on Saturday 25 July 2026. The venue is the Satellite Centre, Wellington Road, Greenfield, Oldham OL3 7AQ. The event is classed as an AS race under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules and will act as a counter race for the English Fell Running Championship 2026. The race marks the event's tenth year in 2026. Minimum age for entry is 16. Teams are allowed and there are no junior races. The event has a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance via the FRA.

Course, kit and entry

The course is 8.5 km with over 400 m of climb. The route passes the 'Pots and Pans' monument, reaches its highest point at Shaw Rocks, then returns via Alderman's Hill with a long technical downhill followed by a sustained uphill section to the hill shoulder and then back to the finish. FRA mandatory kit requirements will be decided on the day; competitors are advised to bring the full kit normally required by the FRA.
