Trafford Trails 5
Established in 2017 and organised by Dragons Running Club (Sale), the Trafford Trails 5 is a summertime trail race of approximately 5 miles along the banks of the River Mersey. The event attracts both club and non-club runners and is presented as a step up from local parkruns. Profits from the race are shared with local community groups and charities; 2026 recipients included Greater Manchester Blood Bikes, the Alex Hulme Foundation, Purple Heart Wishes and the National Deaf Children’s Society.
The course starts at Trafford MV Rugby Club in Sale and follows the Mersey, passing through the woods at Kickety Brook to Stretford Meadow before returning along both banks. The route is almost entirely off road, with about 75 metres on a quiet access road (Bradley Lane). Surfaces include hard packed paths, a short tarmacked section and riverside trails; parts may be muddy after heavy rain. The profile is largely flat apart from a ramp up to a bridge and a short climb at Stretford Meadows. The distance has not been measured to UKA standards.
The race is hosted at Trafford MV RFCC, just off Finny Bank Road in Sale; parking is available at the club. The nearest Metrolink stop is Dane Road, about a 15 minute walk, and the 263 bus stops about 10 minutes away. Entry is online only, entrants must be 18 or over, and chip timing is used with results available immediately after the race. Toilets are in the changing rooms and water is available at the start and finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
