Trafford Trails 5
Trafford Trails 5 is a summertime trail race established in 2017 and organised by Dragons Running Club (Sale). The route runs along the banks of the River Mersey and is approximately 5 miles long. The course starts at Trafford MV Rugby Club in Sale, follows the river and goes through the woods at Kickety Brook to Stretford Meadow, then returns along both banks of the Mersey.
The route is almost entirely off road apart from about 75 metres on a quiet access road. It includes hard packed paths, a short tarmacked section and riverside trails. Parts of the course may be muddy after heavy rain. The terrain is mostly flat with a ramp up to a bridge and a small climb at Stretford Meadows. The distance has not been measured to UKA standards.
Entries are online only and on-the-day entry is not available. Numbers can be collected from the club house on race day and entrants must be 18 years or older. The race uses chip timing with results available immediately after the event. Profits from the race are shared with local community groups and charities; recent beneficiaries include local and national charities.
Facilities at the host club include parking adjacent to the start, changing room toilets and a bar. The nearest Metrolink stop is Dane Road about 15 minutes walk away and the 263 bus stops about 10 minutes away. The race is held under UK Athletics rules and is licensed by the Trail Running Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
