About the race
The AKT Turkey Trot 5K/10K is scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026, at the Mount Vernon Trail. The event is non-competitive and open to walkers and runners; it is organized to raise funds for the 2027 Samuel Kwarteng Memorial Scholarship. All revenue and donations are directed to the scholarship fund. The event uses self-timed, out-and-back routes that start and finish at Mile 0 of the Mount Vernon Trail, near the Mount Vernon Estate entrance and the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
The route follows the paved trail with views of the Potomac River. The 5K turnaround is at Cedar Knoll inside Fort Hunt Park; the 10K turnaround is at Collingwood Picnic Area inside Fort Hunt Park. A bag drop will be located near the start/finish and items are left at participants' own risk. Registration pricing varies by date and on-site status.
Early and late web rates are listed for each distance, and on-site registration fees are higher. Processing fees are included in listed pricing. Children 12 and under may register free through a separate registration process.
Race day registration is available; cash is not accepted on race day and payment is handled electronically. All participants receive a race bib, a custom race shirt, and a race medal. T-shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before November 13; additional shirts will be ordered but are not guaranteed. Packet pickup and waiver completion are required before participating.
