AIDS Run & Walk Chicago
AIDS Run & Walk Chicago is a grassroots fundraising event organized by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago to raise awareness and funds for people living with and vulnerable to HIV. The event typically draws about 2,000 attendees and benefits AFC and its CommunityDirect partners.
Courses offered include:
- 5k Walk & Roll
- 5k Run
- 10k Run
All three courses run along the Chicago lakefront near Soldier Field and feature views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. Water stations are placed along the courses, and additional refreshments are available at the finish area. Race results are available on event day at the runner registration booth and are posted online at aidsrunwalk.org. Downloadable event maps are provided in the event guide.
The Walk/Roll course is ADA accessible, and strollers are permitted on all three courses. Dogs are allowed on the routes; owners are asked to bring supplies to clean up after their pets and to start with dogs and strollers at the back of the corrals for safety.
Logistics note: the event base is Soldier Field, 1410 Museum Campus Drive, Chicago, IL 60606. Parking is available in the North Garage for $25 via McFetridge Drive and Waldron Drive will be closed to traffic. The site is reachable by CTA 146 bus and Roosevelt Station (Red, Orange, Green lines). Bicycle parking is provided on the southwest lawn of the Museum Campus.
Fundraising for the event is based on D.I.Y. efforts; participants have raised over $11 million to support services. There is no fundraising minimum to participate as an in-person supporter. The campaign theme is Resist, Restore, and Renew, describing organizational priorities for advocacy, care, and continued commitment to access to health care and housing.
