Event Overview

The Aggies Staircase is a Category AS fell race situated in Darwen. The course covers a distance of 4 miles (6.4 km) and involves a total ascent of 1148 feet (350 meters). The race starts and finishes at the green on Punstock Road.

The route is characterized by three distinct climbs. From the start, participants follow a footpath and tracks past Robin Hoods cottage to reach Darwen Tower (Jubilee Tower). After a descent through a small quarry toward Bold Venture Park, the course turns for a steep ascent up Jacob-s Mound. The race then continues across the moor top to the foot of the final and steepest climb, the Aggies Staircase.

Course Details

Following the final summit, participants return to a point below the tower before descending back toward Sunnyhurst. The final section retraces the initial steps past Robin Hoods cottage and leads back to the finish line on Punstock Road green.

The event is held under Fell Runners Association (FRA) safety requirements and competition rules. The minimum age for participants is 14 years old on the day of the event.
