Achilles Charlotte 5K and Fun Run
The inaugural Achilles Charlotte 5K and Fun Run takes place at the Marion Diehl Recreation Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. This event is organized by the Charlotte chapter of Achilles International, an organization that has supported athletes with disabilities in endurance events since 1983. The course leads participants through the streets of the Madison Park neighborhood and along the Little Hope Creek Greenway.
The event features several participation options:
- 5K (including categories for ambulatory, pushrim, handcycle, duo team, lower limb loss, mobility impaired, and visually impaired athletes)
- Guided Runner Challenge 5K
- 1 Mile
- Kids Fun Run
In the Guided Runner Challenge 5K, teams of two sighted runners participate together. One person is blindfolded while the other acts as a guide, and teams compete against each other for the fastest race time.
Registered participants receive a race shirt and a finisher medal. The event includes post-race snacks and a finish line festival featuring music and celebrations. The proceeds from the event support programs aimed at making running accessible to athletes of all ages and ability levels. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
