Achill ROAR Adventure Race 12 September 2026
Achill ROAR is an adventure race on Achill Island organised by Adventure Racing Ireland as a fundraiser for the adventure racing community. The event is part of the ARI National Solo Series and requires current ARI membership to enter. Race HQ is at Keel Beach, Achill, with parking and the transition area nearby.
Three race routes are provided with the following formats and activity mix:
- Expert course: 63 km (kayak 2 km, trail running 16 km, road biking 45 km)
- Sport course: 32 km (kayak 1.5 km, trail running 9 km, road biking 21 km)
- Challenge course: 18 km (kayak 1 km, trail running 5 km, road biking 12 km)
Routes are fully marked and race details are provided in advance. The kayak stage takes place on a small inland lake; single and double sit on top kayaks are provided and competitors may bring their own equipment. Kayaks, paddles and buoyancy aids left at the lake are at owners risk and must be collected during the designated collection window.
Event facilities include campsite camping, showers available for a small fee of €2, and water at the start, finish and transition area. An after race social will be held in a local pub and Sunday morning activities on the beach include informal novelty races with free entry for participants and their guests. Entries close 15 August 2026 and published entry fees vary by course and registration date. Mandatory kit is specified and includes a roadworthy bike, helmet, waterproof jacket, first aid kit, space blanket, spare tube pump and lights.
