The Above the Clouds Ultra takes place on October 3, 2026, in Woodland Park, Colorado, known as the "City Above the Clouds." The event offers two distances: a 50k ultra and a 10k race. It is positioned as a Colorado fall classic.

Course Description

The course starts at Merit Academy in Woodland Park. For the 50k, runners ascend Lovell Gulch to Rampart Range Road, where there are views of Pikes Peak. The route continues south and then moves onto a counter-clockwise loop on the singletrack trails around Rampart Reservoir. It connects to the 700.A National Forest trail and follows quiet National Forest roads before descending the Lovell Gulch Loop back to the finish at Merit Academy.

The 10k course also starts and finishes at Merit Academy, utilizing the Lovell Gulch trail.

Aid Stations & Support

There are multiple aid stations on the 50k course, including Lovell Gulch, Rainbow Gulch, Dam, and Rampart Ridge. The Rainbow Gulch and Dam stations are crew-accessible; the Dam station has a $10 entry fee for vehicles. The Rampart Ridge station is not crew-accessible. Aid stations provide Tailwind, Muir Energy Gels, snacks, fruit, soda, and at some stations, hot food like bacon and quesadillas.

Crewing is allowed only at designated stations for the 50k. Pacing is prohibited for all participants.

Registration & Logistics

Registration closes on September 30, 2026. The entry includes a gender-specific race shirt, personalized bib, finisher's award, access to aid stations, and a post-race meal.

Packet pickup is available on Friday, October 2nd, at Colorado GearLab, and on race day at the start/finish line beginning at 6:30 AM.

Parking is available at Merit Academy, with attendants directing vehicles. The closest airports are Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (approx. 55-minute drive) and Denver International Airport (approx. 2-hour drive).
