Event Overview
The Ty Gwyn Abersoch 10K takes place in the coastal village of Abersoch, North Wales. The event forms part of the Abersoch Triple Crown series and includes both a main road and track race alongside a shorter beach-based event. The course features a mix of village streets, narrow lanes, and a final section on the sand.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 10 km
- 3 km Beach Race
Course Details
The 10 km route begins near the harbour and proceeds through the village high street toward the Sarn Bach crossroads. The course then transitions into narrow lanes leading toward the far end of the beach. A 0.3-mile uphill track section precedes two miles of undulating roads. The final mile of the race is held on Abersoch main beach, requiring runners to navigate groynes and varying sand conditions before reaching the finish line below the yacht club.
Logistics and Facilities
The event utilizes ChronoChip bibtag timing technology, recording individual times from the start to the finish line. Water and energy drink stations are positioned at the 5 km mark and the finish area. Clear kilometer markers and marshals are located throughout the course to guide runners.
Race numbers must be collected in person at designated locations in Abersoch on either the evening before or the morning of the event. All finishers receive a zinc alloy medal with a bespoke lanyard, along with water and refreshments such as bananas and chocolate. A prize fund of £1,500 is available for top performers.
