A Shot in The Dark Night Trail Race

A Shot in The Dark is a night trail running event at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. The event offers three distance options and requires participants to use a headlamp or other illumination while on the course.

Registration has pre-registration and day-of fees for each distance, with the last day to pre-register listed as November 11, 2026. Packet pick-up takes place on November 12 at the South Conference Center.

Race policies require all participants to sign the Whitewater Center Assumption of Risk Agreement; the waiver may be printed and brought to packet pick-up or completed on site and is not included in the online registration. Registration is non-refundable. Trails remain open to other runners, hikers and bikers during the event, and participants should communicate when passing other trail users. No e-bikes or other powered transportation are permitted in Whitewater Race Series events.

Aid stations on course provide hydration only at the South Main and East Main locations. Race shirts are guaranteed for those who pre-register by November 2, 2026. Half marathon finisher medals are awarded to runners who register by October 2, 2026. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers within standard age groups for each distance.

Volunteer opportunities are available. The Whitewater Center does not conduct trail rescues; participants must call 911 for emergencies. Parking fees apply at the center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
