A Shot in The Dark Night Trail Race

A Shot in The Dark is a night trail running event held at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. Participants choose from multiple distances and run on mixed-use trails while using a personal light source.

The available distances are:

• 5K
• 10K
• Half Marathon

Participants are required to use a headlamp or other illumination source. Packet pick-up is scheduled the day before the race at the South Conference Center. Pre-registration and day-of registration fees differ by distance, and race registration is non-refundable. Race shirts are guaranteed for those who pre-register on or before November 2, 2026. Half Marathon finishers receive finisher medals if they register on or before October 2, 2026.

Trail and event policies include a mandatory Assumption of Risk waiver, trails that remain open to other runners, hikers and bikers during the event, and a prohibition on e-bikes or other powered transportation. Aid stations listed on course provide hydration only. The Whitewater Center charges a daily parking fee and reserves the right to alter, reschedule or cancel events. In an emergency participants must call 911; the Whitewater Center does not conduct trail rescues.
