Event Overview
The 5K on the Runway is a community event taking place at Evansville Regional Airport. The proceeds from the event benefit the P-47 Foundation, which works to preserve the P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft and honor military service. The event is presented by the Evansville Wartime Museum, the P-47 Foundation, and the Evansville Regional Airport.

The event offers three activities:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 mile walk
- Kid’s Dash Run for children aged 1 to 9
Course Details
The start and finish point is the Evansville Wartime Museum. Participants will run or walk on the airport's active runways, taxiways, and ramps. The route passes the Air Traffic Control Tower and the Airport Safety Department. Participants can view historical exhibits along the route, including the P-47 Thunderbolt "Hoosier Spirit II" and a 1943 Chrysler Sherman tank.
Additional Activities
After the races, there will be award presentations. Vendors will be present with food, coffee, and running apparel. A drawing will be held for two roundtrip flight vouchers from Breeze Airways, with all registered participants automatically entered.
Registration and Logistics
Registration fees vary. For the 5K Run/Walk and 1 mile walk, the fee is $25 until February 14, 2026, then $30, and increases to $35 from April 30. Registration includes an event t-shirt, with size guaranteed for registrations by April 2, 2026. The Kid’s Dash costs $5 and includes a participation medal; youth t-shirts are available for an additional $12. Packet pickup is available on Friday, May 1, 2026, and on race morning at the Evansville Wartime Museum. Race-day registration is available from 7:00 to 8:15 AM on the north side of the museum for $35.
Parking and Transportation
Parking is available from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM at SRG Global (the former Whirlpool Building) and Anchor Industries. A shuttle service will transport participants from these parking lots to the Evansville Wartime Museum. Limited handicap parking is available at the museum with prior notification.
Post-Race Opportunity
After the event, the EAA Chapter 21 offers free Young Eagles flights for children aged 8 to 17 at the United Companies Air Center, starting at 11:00 AM. Sign-up is required online in advance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
