3-2-1 Dash for Down Syndrome 5K & Fun Run
The 3-2-1 Dash for Down Syndrome takes place in Charlotte, North Carolina, and serves as a celebration for World Down Syndrome Day. The event features two primary distances:
- 3.1 Miles (5K)
- 100 Yards (Kids Fun Run)
The 3.1 Miles course includes a unique layout designed to represent the extra chromosome in individuals with Down syndrome. Participants complete the standard distance by crossing a traditional 5K finish line, but the race continues to an additional "extra" finish line. Spectators with Down syndrome line this final segment of the course to cheer for the runners as they complete the dash.
Following the conclusion of the running events, a community celebration is held on-site. This post-race gathering includes activities such as games and bounce houses, along with food for participants and attendees. The event is located at 8840 Blakeney Professional Dr. Registration for the different distances requires a fee, and the event welcomes participants for both the long-distance run and the short-distance dash for children.
