Girls on the Run Southcentral Alaska Spring 5K
Girls on the Run Southcentral Alaska holds a season-closing celebratory 5K on May 15, 2027 at Westchester Lagoon, 1824 W. 15th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501. The event marks the end of the program season and provides participants a tangible sense of accomplishment; every program participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal.
The course distance is 3.1 miles and is presented as a non-competitive, celebratory event. Program participants and coaches are already registered through the council and do not need additional registration. Community members, family and friends may join as community runners or as running buddies; each registered GOTR participant is required to have a running buddy for the full duration of the course. A running buddy may be designated by the council or by a parent or guardian.
The council applies safety measures including race bibs for all participants, course monitoring, head counts and an overall safety plan for staff and volunteers. The event is accessible for people with disabilities; participants may walk, run, push or roll and designated parking is available. Liability waivers are part of registration.
The event program includes pre-5K activities, a DJ, water stations, happy hair and face-painting stations, and merchandise for sale. Volunteers appointed by the council help with set-up and tear down, registration, course marshals, running buddy support, water and cheer stations, and will undergo a background check.
