UF Homecoming Chomp for Charity 5K
The event is a charity running race held in Depot Park in Downtown Gainesville. The course covers 3.1 Miles and supports the Humane Society of North Central Florida, a Gainesville based 501(c)(3) no-kill shelter that works on adoption, low-cost veterinary care, and fostering to reduce local shelter euthanasia.
Registration opens July 27 and closes September 15, with a base fee of $25 and day of registration available for an additional $5. Participants may indicate an organization or group to run with and will be paired with animals from the Humane Society. Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each gender group.
The event features vendors including Gator Grill Club, Peach by Pump, B-12 Vitamin Company, and the Humane Society of North Central Florida. After the race there is a reception at First Magnitude Brewing Company; the reception includes one drink per registered participant as part of registration. Parking is available at the First Magnitude Brewing and Depot Park parking lots.
Students and families of all ages are noted as welcome to participate. The race takes place as part of UF Homecoming and Gator Growl activities and is organized to raise funds and public support for the local humane society. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
