9 11 Memorial 5K in Valdosta
The Valdosta Fire Department presents the 6th Annual 9/11 Memorial Run on September 5, 2026, to remember the events of September 11, 2001 and to honor those who lost their lives and the first responders who sacrificed in the line of duty. The event has a patriotic theme and invites community members to line the course with decorated signs or costumes.
The event distance is 5K and the course is a certified USATF course, certificate GA24032WC, which may allow qualifying times for major events. The run starts near downtown Valdosta at the intersection of N Valley and N Patterson and follows an out-and-back route that passes Valdosta State University.
Packet pickup is available the day before at the City Hall Annex, 300 N Lee St, Valdosta, GA from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM; a race day pickup begins on September 5. Pre-race pickup will not be drive through style. A commemorative hooded sweatshirt will be offered for $30 with optional shipping for an additional $10; a special design is planned and shirt orders follow the stated sizing process. The T shirt deadline is midnight August 25, 2026.
An inter-agency competition recognizes the agency team with the most participants. Awards include top overall and masters winners, top two in multiple age groups, oldest and youngest finishers, and the most patriotic participant. Awards and 9/11 ceremonies will take place on the front courthouse lawn at 100 E. Central Ave. One hundred percent of race proceeds will be donated to Valor Service Dogs, Inc.
