Zoo Knoxville Red Panda Run 5K
The Zoo Knoxville Red Panda Run 5K is a running event taking place at Zoo Knoxville and the neighboring Chilhowee Park. The 3.1-mile course begins and ends inside the zoo, starting specifically at the Boyd Family Red Panda Village. Participants navigate a route that includes varied surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, gravel, and both uphill and downhill sections.
The course passes several animal habitats, including those for tigers, rhinos, gibbons, and great apes, as well as the Timber Loop Boardwalk. Two water stations are positioned along the track to provide hydration. The event is open to participants of all ages, and walkers with strollers are permitted to join from the final starting corral.
Attendees receive several items as part of their registration:
- 3.1 Miles: A commemorative T-shirt, an official race bib, and zoo admission for the day.
Post-race activities are held at the Sugarland's BARn, where refreshments are provided. Spectators are allowed within the main plaza during the race, which offers views of the start line, the finish line, and the second mile marker. While pets are not permitted on the property, service animals are allowed if they are registered at the Zoo Ranger Station. Age group winners receive event-specific merchandise, and the overall winner is granted a red panda meet-and-greet experience for their family.
