Event Overview
The Zombie Run in Wilmington is a themed athletic event held at Long Leaf Park, utilizing the areas around Shelters 5 and 6. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Lyceum Academy Boosters to support educational trips and program opportunities for students in the Honors program at New Hanover High School. Participation is open to various age groups depending on the chosen distance.
Distances and Formats
Participants can choose between two distinct course options:
- 3.1 Miles: A non-timed course where participants aged 12 and older navigate zombies attempting to pull flags from runner belts.
- 1 Mile: A family-friendly run or walk known as the Monster Mile, where participants can trick or treat along the path.
Participation Details
In the 3.1 Miles event, runners wear flag belts while navigate a course with hidden zombies. The first 50 participants to finish with at least one flag remaining receive a prize. All registered participants in this distance receive a t-shirt. For younger participants in this category, such as middle school students, parental accompaniment is recommended for the duration of the course.
The 1 Mile event is designed for families and walkers. Children are encouraged to bring Halloween baskets to collect treats during the activity. Zombies are present along this route to cheer for runners and pose for photographs. This shorter distance focuses on a collaborative experience rather than the flag-pulling mechanics of the longer course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
