About the race
Zombie Backyard Ultra is a backyard-format last-person-standing running event in Pelham, AL, held at Oak Mountain State Park and organized by Zombie Trail Races.
The course is 4 miles 880 feet (about 4.167 miles) per loop with roughly 500 feet of gain and loss each lap. Runners have one hour to complete each loop. Limited aid is available at the start/finish area. Participants may set up a tent or canopy with their supplies. No personal aid is allowed during a loop.
The format requires runners to be in the starting corral at the start of each hour to attempt the next lap. Each loop begins one hour after the previous loop. Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course until a loop is completed. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, including eliminated runners. Artificial aids such as trekking poles are not permitted, and slower runners must allow passes.
The event is capped at 100 entrants. The winner is the last individual to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than everyone else, there is no winner. All other participants receive results showing the distance they covered and are recorded as not finishing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
