Y It Matters 5K & Fun Run
Y It Matters is a community running event in Birmingham, Alabama, held on December 12, 2026. The event uses a start area on 1st Avenue South near Regions Field, Railroad Park, and Good People Brewing. The 5K course is an out-and-back along 1st Avenue South toward the Rotary Trail with a turnaround near 32nd Street South. The course is not certified and is described by the organizer as flat.
Registration opens July 1, 2026 and closes October 1, 2026. Entry fees listed by the organizer are $40 for the 5K, $30 for the sleep in support option, and $20 for the 1-mile fun run. Payment is by credit card only; processing fees and sales tax apply. To be guaranteed a race shirt, registration must be completed by November 13, 2026. Sleep in registrants who receive shirts must pick them up prior to event day at packet pickup. Pre-race and race-day packet pickup details are to be announced.
All 5K participants will receive a medal. Top three finishers in each age and gender category will receive a medal or a non-cash prize. The fun run is a one mile out-and-back for children and families; paying fun run participants will receive a race shirt. A parent or guardian may run alongside a child at no cost but will not receive a bib, shirt, or medal. Adults registering minors will be asked to indicate when a parent is running with a minor.
