Y It Matters 5K & Fun Run
The event takes place on December 12, 2026, in downtown Birmingham, with the starting area on 1st Avenue South between Regions Field and Railroad Park near Good People Brewing. The course for the 5K is an out and back along 1st Avenue South toward the Rotary Trail, with a turnaround at 32nd Street South; the course is described as flat. The course is not certified.

Registration opens July 1, 2026. Event fees listed by the organizer are $40 for the 5K, $30 for the 5K sleep in option, and $20 for the Fun Run. Payment is by credit card only; processing fees and sales tax apply. YMCA members are noted to receive a discount; details are pending.
The Fun Run is a 1 mile out and back for children and families. Paying Fun Run participants receive a race shirt. A parent or guardian may run alongside their child at no cost but will not receive a bib, shirt, or medal. Adults registering minors will be asked to identify if a parent will run with the minor for participation tracking.
A sleep in option allows support for the Downtown YMCA Youth Center without attending race day; shirts for sleep in registrants must be picked up prior to the event at packet pickup.
