York Triathlon
The event is held at York Sport Village on the University of York Heslington campus near the city centre. It begins with a swim in a large heated indoor pool, continues on a flat multi-lapped bike course closed to traffic, and finishes with a flat multi-lapped run course closed to the public and traffic. Swim start, transition and finish are all within close proximity at the venue. The event is electronic chip timed and all finishers receive an official finisher medal. There are no cut off times.
The pool uses 25 m lengths. Competitors must count their own swim lengths and their own laps on the bike and run. Wearing a cycle helmet is compulsory for the bike section. Relay teams of two or three people divide the three disciplines and pass the electronic chip in transition. A separate kids fun triathlon takes place on Saturday for ages 5 to 16.
The CRUK Wave is a non-competitive charity wave with the distances listed below. UK Triathlon will donate £10 from every CRUK Wave entry to Cancer Research UK. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
- Sprint: 400 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- Super Sprint and Fun: 200 m swim, 10 km cycle, 2.5 km run
- Sprint Relay: 400 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- CRUK Wave: 200 m swim, 10 km cycle, 2.5 km run
