York Triathlon
York Triathlon is held at York Sport Village on the University of York Heslington campus. The event uses a heated indoor leisure pool for the swim, followed by flat, multi-lapped bike and run courses that are fully closed to traffic and the public. The swim start, transition area and finish line are all in close proximity.
The event is electronically chip timed and all finishers receive an official medal. Competitors must count their own pool lengths and laps on the bike and run. Wearing a cycle helmet is compulsory. There are no cut off times. Race day numbers and stickers are collected at registration on the day, and full competitor race day information is emailed 7–10 days before the event.
Course measurements and lap formats:
- Sprint: 400 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- Super Sprint and Fun: 200 m swim, 10 km cycle, 2.5 km run
- Sprint Relay: 400 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- CRUK Wave and CRUK Relay: 200 m swim, 10 km cycle, 2.5 km run
Pool details and lap counts: one pool length is 25 m; Sprint swim is 16 lengths, Super Sprint and Fun swims are 8 lengths. The bike lap is 3.4 km and the run lap is 1.25 km. Minimum age for individual entries is 14 years on race day.
A separate York UK Kids Fun Triathlon for 5–16 year olds takes place on the preceding Saturday. UK Triathlon donates £10 from every CRUK Wave entry to Cancer Research UK. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
