Course, rules and facilities
Location is the Bovington Training Area. Parking is on hardstanding; the car park has little to no lighting, so high-visibility clothing is required when moving around and a 5 mph speed limit applies when entering and exiting. The start and finish are across a main road; crossing is only allowed when marshals indicate it is safe. Portaloos will be available in the car park. No catering is provided.
The map scale is 1:7500 with a new survey and maps printed on waterproof paper. Control descriptions appear on the map and loose in the start lanes. Competitors have 60 minutes to visit as many controls as possible; points are awarded per control and 10 points are deducted per minute or part minute over the hour. Bonus points are available only to those who visit every control. Full leg and arm cover is mandatory and whistles are compulsory. The area is military land; participants must not pick up any items as they may be hazardous. Public liability insurance for civilian participants is provided by Towergate; individuals are advised to hold private accident insurance. The event follows British Orienteering Rules 2023.
