Workington 5k Series
The Workington 5k Series consists of four separate running events held throughout the summer months. This specific event is the third race in the series, taking place at the Workington Cricket Club at the Ernest Valentine Ground. The competition is held on a course that has been officially measured and certified by the Association of UK Course Measurers, following a specific route designated as Route B.
Participants have the option to enter individual races or commit to multiple events within the series. Registrations are available for a single 5 km race, or as part of a package for the final two races. For those competing for overall series prizes, completion of at least three out of the four scheduled races is required. Results are recorded using electronic chip timing provided by Timing Up North.
The race environment includes several safety and organizational measures. A lead bike guides the front of the field while a sweeper runner follows the final participants. First aid provision is available on-site. Race numbers are distributed during the registration period held inside the cricket club. While the event is hosted at the cricket club, there is no parking available directly at the venue itself.
Prizes are awarded to the first, second, and third-place male and female finishers for the individual race. Additionally, points are accumulated across the series, with overall prizes presented at the conclusion of the final event for various five-year veteran age categories.
