Woodhorn Museum Triathlon Weekend 2026
The event takes place at Woodhorn Museum and QE2 Country Park in Ashington on 4 and 5 July 2026. It combines junior and adult multisport races with open water swim challenges in the park lake.
Junior and children's aquathlon events follow the TriStar categories and include short swim and run distances:
- Tristar Start age 8: swim 100 m run 600 m
- Tristar 1 ages 9 10: swim 200 m run 1.2 km
- Tristar 2 ages 11 12: swim 300 m run 1.8 km
- Tristar 3 ages 13 14: swim 400 m run 2.4 km
Open water swim challenge distances on Saturday are:
- 750 m
- 1.5 km
- 3 km
Sunday multisport options include sprint and standard distances plus aquabike, aquathlon and relay entries:
- Sprint triathlon: 750 m swim, 24 km bike, 6.4 km run
- Standard triathlon: 1.5 km swim, 46 km bike, 9.6 km run
- Sprint and standard aquabike and aquathlon options are offered alongside relays
The swim takes place in the warm shallow freshwater QE2 lake. The bike course leaves the museum toward the coast and Cresswell village. The run follows footpaths through woodland and grassland and passes the museum finish at the end of each lap, providing spectator viewing points.
The event has previously hosted national and international age group qualifiers and championships. Non British Triathlon Federation athletes entering junior and adult triathlon, aquabike or aquathlon events must purchase a BTF Race Pass. Saturday open water swim challengers do not require a BTF licence. A 5 percent booking fee is applied by the online entry partner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
