Woodhorn Museum Triathlon
The Woodhorn Museum Triathlon takes place at Woodhorn Museum and the QEII Country Park in Ashington on Sunday 18 July 2027. The event includes individual entries and relay teams across triathlon, aquabike and aquathlon formats, offered over sprint and standard distances. Registration opens November 2026.
The venue has hosted national and international qualifying events, including British Triathlon age group and standard distance championships and World and European standard and sprint distance qualifiers in recent years.
Race formats and distances:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim / 24km bike / 6.4km run
- Standard Triathlon: 1.5km swim / 46km bike / 9.6km run
- Sprint Aquabike: 750m swim / 24km bike
- Standard Aquabike: 1.5km swim / 46km bike
- Sprint Aquathlon: 750m swim / 6.4km run
- Standard Aquathlon: 1.5km swim / 9.6km run
Minimum ages are specified by distance: Sprint events require competitors to be 15 years old on 31 December 2027; Standard events require 17 years old on 31 December 2027. British Triathlon Race Pass details apply to aquabike, aquathlon and triathlon entries.
The swim takes place in the warm, shallow freshwater QEII lake. The bike route leaves the museum and joins the coastal road toward Cresswell. The run follows winding footpaths through woodland and open grassland around the lake, with each lap passing the finish area inside the museum for spectator viewing. Weekly open water swim sessions at the QEII lake run on Thursdays from May to July. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
