Woodhorn Museum Triathlon Weekend 2026
The Woodhorn Museum Triathlon Weekend is a two-day multisport event at Woodhorn Museum and QE2 Country Park in Ashington, organised by VO2 Max Events. The site uses a warm shallow freshwater lake for open water swimming and a mix of coastal and park roads for the bike and run sections. The event has previously hosted national and international age-group qualifier races and a national championship.
Open water swims take place in the QE2 lake and are offered at these distances:
- 750m
- 1.5km
- 3km
The swim challenges have minimum ages based on age on 31 December 2026: 12 years for the 750m and 1.5km events, and 14 years for the 3km event. Saturday open water swim competitors do not need a British Triathlon Federation race licence.
A junior aquathlon programme runs on Saturday with Tristar categories: Tristar Start (age 8) Swim 100m / Run 600m; Tristar 1 (ages 9-10) Swim 200m / Run 1.2km; Tristar 2 (ages 11-12) Swim 300m / Run 1.8km; Tristar 3 (ages 13-14) Swim 400m / Run 2.4km. Minimum age for the children's events is determined by age on 31 December 2026.
Sunday includes sprint and standard distance multisport races alongside aquabike and aquathlon options. Distances include:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 24km bike, 6.4km run
- Standard Triathlon: 1.5km swim, 46km bike, 9.6km run
Minimum ages are 15 years for sprint events and 17 years for standard events, determined by age on 31 December 2026. Non-BTF athletes entering junior and adult triathlon, aquabike and aquathlon events must purchase a Race Pass from the British Triathlon Federation.
