Trail Race in Wompatuck State Park
The Womp Romp is a trail running event held in Wompatuck State Park, located in Hingham, Massachusetts. The park consists of 3,526 acres and has a history as a former military ammunitions depot. The race is organized by a volunteer team, and all profits are donated to charity partners, including the Friends of Wompatuck and Free to Run.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 10 Miler: A single loop course.
- 50K: A three loop course totaling approximately 31 miles.
The course features a variety of terrain, including singletrack trails, wide paths, and approximately two miles of pavement per loop. Runners should expect natural obstacles such as roots, rocks, leaves, and mud. The event has a total time limit of 9 hours for both distances, with a specific requirement for 50K runners to begin their final loop by 2:00 PM.
The event is cupless, meaning participants must bring their own hydration systems, such as handheld bottles, vests, or collapsible cups. Aid stations are located at the start/finish area and near the park visitor center, providing water, fuel, and various snacks. Participants registered by September 20 receive a long-sleeve tech t-shirt. Finishers of the 10 Miler receive a patch, while 50K finishers receive a mug.
Parking is available at South Field, which is located about two miles inside the park from the main visitor center. A designated area is provided at the start/finish for participants to set up tents or canopies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
