Women's Run & Raffle : Gibsonia, PA
Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy hosts the 3rd Annual Women's Run & Raffle in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. The event is free and is presented as a relaxed, supportive running opportunity that also serves to introduce more women to the Baker Trail UltraChallenge 50-miler.
The course is a 4-mile loop that includes plenty of climbing; precise elevation is to be determined. The loop begins and ends at Olympia Shelter in North Park. Participants may run a single loop or continue on the loop for up to six hours according to their chosen format.
Amenities and logistics noted by organizers include bathrooms at the site, plenty of parking, water on hand, and some snacks. The course is mostly shaded with very little exposed sun. Dogs are asked to remain at home. Organizers will hold food and raffles, including several entries to the Baker Trail UltraChallenge 50-miler.
Background and purpose are explained by the host: the Baker Ultra historically skewed male, and equity guidelines now allocate 50 percent of race entries to women.
