The 39th Annual Women's Distance Festival 5K
The Women's Distance Festival 5K is an established community event held at Rockland Lake State Park in Congers, New York. Originally created by the Road Runners Club of America to advocate for women's long-distance racing opportunities, the event has grown into a significant regional gathering. The festival supports the Center for Safety & Change, an organization dedicated to assisting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
The event offers several participation options to accommodate different ages and preferences:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk
- Kids Fun Run (open to ages 3-11)
- 5K Virtual Run/Walk
The in-person races take place on a single day, while the virtual option allows participants to complete their distance at any location over a one-week period. The Kids Fun Run includes a participation medal for all young athletes.
Awards are presented in numerous categories, including top overall finishers for female and non-binary participants, age group awards in five-year increments, and various team awards such as Mother-Daughter, Sister-Sister, and Grandmother-Granddaughter pairings. Participants also have the opportunity to contribute to local community initiatives, such as a period product drive for a local food pantry. Packet pickup is available on the days leading up to the race as well as on the morning of the event at the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
