Winter Solstice Strider 2026
The Winter Solstice Strider is an evening head-torch run held on 21 December 2026 at the STRI, St. Ives Estate in Bingley (BD16 4AU). The event raises funds for Sue Ryder and offers both in-person and virtual participation. Virtual entrants run a 5 km or 10 km route of their choice on the shortest day and receive the bespoke event medal in advance.
Participants choose one of two routes:
- 5 km route through the St Ives Estate woods and tracks.
- 10 km route through the St Ives Estate woods and tracks.
The course winds through woodland and passes local landmarks such as Druids Altar. The terrain is approximately 95% rough track and can be hazardous in wet conditions, so appropriate footwear and clothing are required. A good quality head torch is mandatory and an additional chest lamp is advisable. Wheelchairs, buggies and similar wheeled devices are not permitted because of the terrain. Dogs are allowed only one per runner, must be kept on a short lead, and must be visible in low light with an illuminated or reflective collar or harness.
Entries are non-transferable and non-refundable; if the event is cancelled for reasons beyond the organisers control they will aim to reschedule. Free car parking is provided for participants, supported by STRI and St Ives Golf Club. Event photography and filming may take place and images may be used for publicity unless participants register an objection. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
