About the race
The 2027 Winter Carderock 5k, 10k, & Half takes place at Carderock Recreation Area on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath in Potomac, MD. The event offers three timed running distances along the towpath, which is a light gravel dirt trail with minimal elevation gain; each route is an out-and-back and is described as fast and flat.

Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Dri-fit) event shirt, and a chip-timed result. Water and aid are provided on course: one water station on the 5k, four on the 10k, and ten on the half marathon at approximate mile markers; Gatorade is available at some stations. Packet pickup is available at the event. There will be no on-site race registration.
Points earned at this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series, and toward the Winter Series. The Back of the Pack is a series for runners who average slower than the listed BOTP times, allowing similar-pace competition and series points. Live results are posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted on the organizer’s site after the race.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in standard age groups (19&Under through 70+); overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Parking is available in four lots within the recreation area; the organizer provides a GPS pin for the event location.
