Winter Carderock 5K, 10K, & Half
The event on January 23, 2027, takes place at Carderock Recreation Area on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath in Potomac, Maryland. It offers the following distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half marathon
All three routes run along the C&O Canal path on a light gravel dirt trail. Each course is an out-and-back and features minimal elevation gain; the organizer describes the courses as fast and flat. Walkers and strollers are welcome.
Participants receive a finisher’s medal, a technical Drifit event shirt, and race results are chip timed. Packet pickup is available at the event. There is no on-site race registration for this race.
Water stations are provided by distance: the half marathon has ten stations at approximately miles 1.55, 2.7, 4.9, 5.3, 6.15, 6.95, 7.8, 8.2, 10.4, and 11.55; the 10 km has four stations at approximately miles 1.55, 2.7, 3.5, and 4.65; the 5 km has one station near mile 1.55. Gatorade may be available at some stations. Restrooms are located by the main parking lot.
Live results are posted on Athlinks and a QR code at the event provides immediate access. Final results with series points are posted to the organizer’s website after the race. Awards include top three men and women overall and age group prizes across standard age divisions. Points from this race count toward the Year Long 5k, Endurance, Back of the Pack, and Winter series.
