2026 Winter Carderock 5k, 10k & Half
The event takes place January 10, 2026 at Carderock Recreation Area on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath in Potomac, MD. Distances offered:
- 5k
- 10k
- Half-marathon
Points for these races count toward the Year-Long 5k, Endurance, Back of the Pack Series and the Winter Series. Registration fees vary by distance and change after December 31; shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before December 26. Packet pickup is available at the event and there will be no on-site race registration.
Course, timing and facilities
All three routes run along the C&O Canal path, a light gravel dirt trail. Each course is an out-and-back and has minimal elevation gains. The event is chip timed; finishers receive a medal and a technical (Drifit) event shirt. Water and aid details:
- Half-marathon: 10 water stations at listed approximate mile markers; some stations include Gatorade.
- 10k: four water stations at approximate mile markers.
- 5k: one water station at an approximate mile marker. Restrooms are located by the main parking lot. Parking is available within the recreation area; the organizer provides a GPS pin: 38.972563, -77.198738.
Results and awards
Live race results will be posted on Athlinks and via a race-day QR code; final results with series points are posted the following Monday. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place male and female in standard age categories; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group prizes.
