Event Overview
The Wings for Life World Run at College Station North Gate is a global charity event where participants run to support spinal cord research. This event follows a unique format without a traditional fixed finish line. Instead of running toward a goal, participants are pursued by a Virtual Catcher Car via the event's mobile application. All entry fees and donations collected from the event are used to fund research projects seeking a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Format and Course
Participants use the dedicated mobile app to track their progress and receive updates on the Virtual Catcher Car. The race begins globally at the same time, with the virtual pursuit vehicle starting its movement 30 minutes after the initial signal. The car begins at a speed of 14 km/h and gradually increases its pace until it passes every participant, at which point their race concludes.
The local course in College Station begins at the Corner Bar in the North Gate area. From the starting point, the route takes participants through the local campus. Specifically, the following details apply to the event site:
- App Run format utilizing a smartphone application
- Course accessible for wheelchair participants
- Refreshment station available on-site
- Timing and race numbers provided digitally through the app
The event is open to runners and wheelchair users of various experience levels, as the distance covered depends entirely on the pace of the participant relative to the increasing speed of the virtual chase. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
