Wings for Life - Newport Beach
This local Wings for Life World Run gathering in Newport Beach meets at Mutt Lynch's and follows a roughly 4-mile out-and-back route along the Newport Beach Boardwalk on the Balboa Peninsula. The course runs past Newport Pier and has a turnaround near Balboa Pier at about the 2-mile mark, returning along the boardwalk to Mutt Lynch's. The meet is accessible for wheelchair participants and supports both runners and wheelchair athletes.
The event uses the Wings for Life World Run app to manage participation and the race format replaces a fixed finish line with a Virtual Catcher Car. The catcher vehicle starts moving 30 minutes after the race start at 14 km/h and steadily increases speed as it progresses. Timing, race numbers, and a local refreshment station are part of the on-site setup. Red Bull will be available before the run, and assorted snacks and breakfast items are offered after the run.
All donations and entry fees collected for this Wings for Life event are directed to spinal cord research projects.
