Wings for Life World Run Fort Myers
The Wings for Life World Run in Fort Myers is a global running event that follows a unique format where participants compete against a moving boundary rather than a traditional stationary finish line. The event is open to both runners and wheelchair participants, with 100% of the entry fees and donations going toward spinal cord research projects.
The race utilizes a mobile app and a Virtual Catcher Car. Participants begin their run at the same time as others globally. Thirty minutes after the start, the Virtual Catcher Car begins to "drive" at a speed of 14 km/h. It steadily increases its pace at set intervals until the final athlete is overtaken. A participant's race ends once they are caught by the virtual car.
The course in Fort Myers takes participants across two bridges and leads around the North Fort Myers waterfront. The track concludes by returning through the historic area of Down Town Fort Myers. The local meeting point for this App Run event is located at the Shift Coffee Bar in Down Town Fort Myers.
