Windy Hill Fell Race (Sunday 8 February 2026)

The Windy Hill Fell Race is organised by CraggRunner and starts and finishes at the Rams Head Inn, Ripponden Road, Denshaw, Oldham OL3 5UN. The course is a moorland trail route that passes Piethorne Reservoir, Hollingworth Lake, Blackstone Edge and a high moorland traverse on the Pennine Way to the mast at Windy Hill before returning to the Rams Head. The course is the revised route introduced in 2023 and covers approximately 12 miles (about 19 km) with around 2100 ft (640 m) of climb. Checkpoints provide basic supplies of water and sweets. Hot soup is provided at the pub for runners after the race; the pub also offers a special runners meal.

Entry, rules and facilities

Pre-entry is available; affiliated entry fee is £15 and non-affiliated £17. Entry on the day is possible for £20 only if the event limit of 300 has not been reached. Minimum age is 18. Teams are allowed, with three to count. Chip timing is provided by Time My Race with instant online results. The event is run under UKA rules, is licensed with the Trail Running Association and the Fell Runners Association, and holds associated permit and insurance. As a winter race, full FRA kit is required, including waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves, paper map and compass, whistle, emergency food and at least 500 ml water.
