Windy Hill Fell Race

Windy Hill Fell Race starts and finishes at the Rams Head Inn in Denshaw, Oldham. The route covers 12 miles with 2100 feet of ascent, running out towards Hollingworth Lake, climbing to Blackstone Edge, traversing high moorland along the Pennine Way to the mast at Windy Hill, dropping into the Ogden Valley and returning to the Rams Head for the final climb. Hot soup is provided at the finish.

This is a winter fell race organised by CraggRunner. Minimum age is 17. Entries open 29 August 2026 and close 18 February 2027. Entry is limited to 300 participants; entry fees are £16 for those affiliated to FRA, LDWA or TRA, £18 for non-affiliated entrants, with on-the-day entry at £20 if the limit is not reached. An A3 map is available for £4.

Full winter FRA kit is required: waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves (a buff is acceptable for a hat), a traditional paper map and compass (digital maps are accepted only if a paper map is also carried; digital compass is not allowed), a whistle, emergency food, and a water bottle holding at least 500 ml.
