Event overview
Windy Hill Fell Race is scheduled for 8 February 2026 at the Rams Head Inn, Ripponden Road, Denshaw, Oldham OL3 5UN. The race is a winter fell race run under UKA rules and licensed with the Fell Runners Association and the Trail Running Association. Chip timing and instant online results will be provided by a timing service.
Distance, ascent and route
The course covers approximately 12 miles / 2100 feet ascent (listed also as about 19 km / 640 m). The route starts and finishes at the Rams Head and follows trails toward Piethorne Reservoir and Hollingworth Lake, climbs to Blackstone Edge, traverses the Pennine Way to the Windy Hill mast, drops to Ogden Valley and returns via Piethorne.
Entry, age and teams
Pre-entry is available with fees listed as £15 (affiliated) and £17 (non-affiliated). Entry on the day may be allowed for £20 if the event limit of 300 entries has not been reached. The minimum age for entry is 18. Teams are permitted, with three to count.
Safety, kit and support
As a winter fell race, full FRA kit is required, including waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves, paper map and traditional compass, whistle, emergency food, and a water bottle (minimum 500 ml). Checkpoints will carry basic supplies of water and sweets. Hot soup is provided at the finish and the venue offers post-race food options.
